students in the sculpture sculpture explore a wide range of approaches to sculpture production. our program recognizes the broad diversity of styles, techniques, and independent conceptual visions that define the field of contemporary sculpture.
about the major
we focus on developing work that is broadly based, both in concept and execution. our course offerings hone your conceptual skills as well as aesthetic and technical proficiency through projects such as site-specific installation, bronze casting and hot glass fabrication.
also available as a minor.
after your foundation year, this program guides you through a series of independent studios and ceramics intensives. you must complete 77–80 studio credits for your major, plus 45–46 academic credits.

kara kirkland ‘15 became interested in sewing and creating costumes during her time in the sculpture department. in the winter of her senior year, she interned for the costume designer at sesame street, brian hemesath. during her internship, she worked with him on the broadway show, honeymoon in vegas, then worked for the tony award-winning costume designer, paul tazewell, on the broadway production of doctor zhivago. after graduation, she moved to new york, where she has since worked on costuming for john wick: chapter two and mr. robot.
our faculty provides you a solid foundation in sculpture, and will prepare you for a variety of post-graduate opportunities, including employment in related fields or continuing education toward advanced degrees. come meet them in person when you schedule your visit!

after graduating, kevin worked at real art ways for the neighborhood studios eye on video program, and assisted in teaching a cinema course for high school students. he gave lectures, led class discussions, assigned projects, and gave students feedback on their projects. he also taught the students about editing software and how to use cameras.
